Section 321 Details
“Section 321” refers to a type of shipment used in the United States by CBP (Customs and Border Protection) that allows an exemption from duties and taxes on the goods being transported. On March 7, 2016, the value of Section 321 shipments increased from US $200 to US $800. To be eligible, a shipment must not exceed US $800 and must not be part of several lots covered by a single order or contract whose total value exceeds the US $800 allowed by this type of informal entry.
CBP, ACE and Section 321
To use this type of shipment, carriers must create an ACE manifest by selecting the “Section 321” shipment type and ensuring that the shipment is indeed present on its eManifest. Although this type of shipment differs from a PAPS shipment, the carrier must always provide a unique shipping control number and all information required for an ACE shipment such as the shipper, the consignee and the goods being transported.
Important: Since Section 321 shipment does not involve a customs broker, you must ensure that your driver is prepared to show the CBP customs officer proper shipping documents.
